Welcome to our practice! Upon entering our doors you will be given a medical questionnaire (above) to complete unless you print it out and complete it prior to your visit. Family history, social history, current and past medications, medical history and eye history all play an important role allowing Dr. Fife to provide a quality exam. For example, Diabetics may have widely fluctuating blood sugar resulting in a shift in their glasses prescription. For reasons such as this we consider this the first portion of your exam.
After completing our diagnostic forms in our reception area, you will have the opportunity to view some informative eye education videos while your electronic patient chart is being prepared by our receptionist. Upon preparation of your chart you will be directed to our diagnostics testing room where a series of tests will be conducted providing Dr. Fife with more knowledge about how your eyes function. Following this, Dr. Fife will evaluate your vision and your eye health and present options and recommendations depending on the results of his findings. Dr. Fife feels that dilating the eyes adds significant understanding into the long term health and visual performance of your eyes. Dilation of the eyes is considered standard of care. There is no additional cost for this service. Dilation, however, is not typically required to receive a prescription for glasses and you may elect not to have this procedure performed.
If during the course of the comprehensive eye examination it becomes apparent that a medical eye examination is more appropriate, Dr. Fife will discuss this with you and explain any potential cost difference and secure your approval to change course. This, however, is rare. Typically, Dr. Fife will complete the comprehensive eye examination and will reschedule any medically necessary office visits. Upon completing your examination, Dr. Fife will escort you to the optical showroom and introduce you to Theresa, Janet or Holly, who will assist you in selecting frames and lenses.
